The Crisafulli Government has kicked off a statewide tour of 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games roadshow events, to share the opportunities and benefits of the Games across the state.

Games delivery partners, organisers, Brisbane 2032 board members and Olympic and Paralympic athletes met with local leaders in Townsville from across the business, sport, health and tourism sectors to discuss how the region can prepare for and benefit from the 2032 Games.

The Townsville 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Community Roadshow is the first in a series of regional events designed to help connect communities with the opportunities arising from Games planning, delivery and legacy initiatives.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a Games for all of Queensland after 1200 days of Games chaos under the former Labor government.

Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said regional Queensland would play a critical role in delivering the 2032 Games.

“The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Queenslanders, and we want our regional communities to be part of that journey,” Minister Mander said.

“Labor wanted the Games to exclusively be in South East Queensland, but our Government is delivering a Games for all of Queensland and Townsville is the perfect place to launch our regional roadshow program.

“We want to hear directly from communities, industry and sporting organisations about the opportunities they want to see and the legacy they want the Games to deliver.”

Member for Townsville Adam Baillie said Townsville was ready to play a leading role in delivering a world-class Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.

“Townsville’s capability to host world-class events will continue to evolve in the lead up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Mr Baillie said.

“This Roadshow will explore the opportunities across business, tourism, allied health and sport while providing practical insights for local providers to best position themselves ahead of the 2032 Games.”

Assistant Minister for North Queensland and Member for Mundingburra Janelle Poole said it was great to hear about all of the opportunities North Queensland would have in the lead up to 2032 and beyond.

“Hosting Games events would deliver significant economic, tourism and community benefits, while strengthening our reputation as a world-class events destination,” Mrs Poole said.

“The 2032 Community Roadshow is helping to ensure our community is informed, engaged and ready to make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead.”
