All contractors will have to be registered through a new pre-qualification system before starting any Council work.
“Every year, Council sources millions of dollars worth of goods and services through tenders, quotes and expressions of interest,” Corporate Services Director David Lenton said.
“During evaluation, we look at how engaging a contractor will benefit the local community, so it is important to us that local contractors are registered with the new pre-qualification system.”
Mr Lenton said Council was obliged to make sure contractors had appropriate skills and training, accreditation, licences and insurance, and had all their OHS requirements in place
“The new pre-qualification system will make sure these obligations are met, to ensure that all licences, insurances and safety systems are up to date. The system is already in place at other councils and water authorities in our region,” he said.
Contractors are encouraged to register via Councils website.
“Once the registration is complete and verified, Council will include the contractor on our Pre-qualified Contractor Database. This doesn’t guarantee a contractor will get work with Council, but contractors must be on this list before they can work for Council.”
