Traineeship call for regional areas

  • McGowan Government’s $2 million Regional Traineeship Program now open to support trainees in regional areas
  • Traineeship funding of up to $30,000 on offer to Community Resource Centres and local government authorities
  • The McGowan Government is supporting skills development across regional Western Australia through a $2 million Regional Traineeship Program.

The program will support Community Resource Centres (CRCs) and eligible local government authorities (LGAs) to provide training, skills and employment opportunities in their area.

Grants of up to $30,000 are available to assist CRCs operating through the Western Australian Community Resource Centre Network to provide training, skills and employment opportunities.

In addition, 22 smaller LGAs across regional Western Australia which do not have a CRC within their local government boundary are now able to apply for funding to support vocational education training for their local communities.

Eligible organisations will be invited to lodge a grant application for the funding, with applications closing on February 25, 2019.

As noted by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The McGowan Government recognises the importance of providing training, skills and employment opportunities for people to encourage them to stay and work in their local regional community.

“We have strengthened the traineeships available through the CRC program to make trainees available to regional local government authorities that do not have a CRC in their area.

“We want to see CRCs and local governments work with local businesses to get the best outcomes for their trainees, and to ensure traineeships are available more broadly across regional Western Australia.

“This program will support those in the workforce to increase their skills and employability, and provide training opportunities for regional people looking to enter the workforce.

“A competitive application process for traineeships will help ensure it is delivering the best outcomes for trainees and regional communities.”
