Training centre and crew base strengthens WA’s aviation workforce

  • Qantas Group Emergency Procedures Training Centre to deliver advanced aviation training capabilities and jobs in Western Australia
  • New Jetstar crew base in Perth creating long-term employment opportunities and strengthening Qantas Group’s growing WA workforce
  • Investment strengthens the tourism sector and creates more than 1,200 skilled local jobs, supporting the Cook Labor Government’s priority to diversify the WA economy

The Cook Labor Government has welcomed the opening of the Qantas Group Emergency Procedures Training Centre and new Jetstar crew base in Perth, reinforcing Western Australia’s position as a growing aviation hub and supporting local jobs.

More than 1,200 Perth-based Qantas Group pilots and crew members are expected to train at the new Welshpool facility each year, reducing the need for interstate travel while building local skills and capability.

Featuring six state-of-the-art classrooms, aircraft door trainers, slide and raft training equipment, fire training facilities, and aviation medical and security areas, the new centre delivers comprehensive emergency procedures training in Western Australia.

A dedicated virtual reality training space also enables crew to train in a highly realistic aircraft environment, enhancing confidence, familiarity, and capability alongside hands-on practical training.

The investment complements Qantas and Perth Airport’s commitment to develop a new terminal at Airport Central as part of Perth Airport’s major redevelopment, which will further strengthen Perth’s role as Australia’s Western Gateway by increasing aviation access and support tourism growth across the State.

The establishment of the Jetstar crew base in Perth will help create long-term employment opportunities and reflects Qantas Group’s ongoing investment in Western Australia’s aviation workforce.

The Cook Labor Government continues to work with aviation partners to grow connectivity, support the tourism industry, and create new opportunities for Western Australians as part of its economic diversification strategy.
