Transformation of epic proportions in far North West Tasmania

The boutique accommodation market in North West Tasmania is delighted to welcome the Ship Inn Stanley as its latest luxury offering. Nestled at the base of The Nut and overlooking the panorama of the windswept bay beyond, the Ship Inn Stanley has undergone an extensive transformation reinventing itself. This is a Tasmanian story telling inn and each of the seven luxurious suites have a compelling tale to tell.

Local owners Kerry and Alastair Houston worked tirelessly over the past 12 months to uncover the historic secrets of the 1849 property, embracing its intriguing past as a sailors pub in the 1840s and breathing new life between its century old walls. Each of the seven generous suites has its own narrative and character reflecting the history of the township and surrounds. Contemporary fittings have been carefully selected to merge effortlessly with vintage art and glorious original timber and stonework. The Ship Inn Stanley is quickly becoming a drawcard for visitors seeking a unique ambience in which to unwind after long days exploring the rugged landscape beyond.

With a boutique yoga studio and gym, and numerous corners in which to while away lazy afternoons, the Ship Inn Stanley promises to compliment the village’s already strong tourism industry, further cementing Circular Head as an important player in Australia’s settlement history and carrying its stories well into the future.

Guests will unearth the many triumphs and tribulations of the inn itself and the surrounding district, including local shipwrecks, tales of visiting sailors and merchants, and the birthplace of Australia’s first Tasmanian born Prime Minister, Joseph Lyons.

The Houston’s are proud members of the local community and drew upon skilled regional tradespeople to bring the project to fruition. The design and styling team embraced the unique eclectic and vintage style of stylists Lynda Gardener and Belle Hemming of ‘Inside Story’ to create a unique style which embraces the stories and weaves the Houston’s extensive art collection into the suites.

A further treat awaits visitors in the coming months as Alastair, a talented stonemason, completes the transformation of the garden. A series of spectacular stone walls are being painstakingly created from rock found naturally on site – aptly anchoring this glorious property to the majestic landmark of The Nut behind her.
