Treated water supply critically low in Mullumbimby

Mullumbimby currently has limited reserves of potable water for drinking and household use with supplies now critically low and only expected to last until tomorrow (Wednesday 2 March).

The Mullumbimby water treatment plant has been offline during the flood event with staff unable to get to the water treatment plant until today.

Staff are currently working on getting the plant up and running again but it will take at least 48 hours until we can treat the water so it is safe for drinking and restore the water supply.

This is the last thing people need after the trauma of the last several days and we are working as fast and hard as we can to get it fixed and operating to capacity again.

The emergency connection to the Rous Water supply has been activated but this only supplies central and east Mullumbimby.

What does this mean?

While people are understandably trying to clean their properties, if they are connected to a town supply this needs to stop please until Council staff can fix the Mullumbimby Treatment Plant.

People need to conserve water, only using if for essential purposes.

Council is looking at bringing in bottled water tomorrow. We are trying to source supplies.
