Kiama Council has removed a large Fig tree in Charles Ave, Minnamurra, which was posing a safety risk to residents, pedestrians, and motorists.

After concerns were raised by the public following previous branch failures, Council commissioned an independent assessment of the Fig.
The arborist reported the Fig had become a safety risk due to its size, history of branch failures, and closeness to properties.
The arborist found continued exposure to very high wind gusts would continue to weaken the tree.
Their report also concluded that additional pruning of the tree, as done previously, would not reduce the risk of further branch failures.
