Tri State Games coming to Cobram, Barooga, Yarrawonga

The annual weeklong sporting event for people with disabilities is coming to Cobram/Barooga, Yarrawonga this November 2023.

Cobram Barooga Business and Tourism Inc (CBBT) in conjunction with Berrigan and Moira Shires, Barooga Sporties, Cobram PALS, YMCA and Valley Sport are thrilled to have the 2023 Tri State Games back in Cobram, Barooga and Yarrawonga.

The games are held in early November each year and after coming off such a great year last year we expect the games will attract up to 300 athletes, plus around 100 coaches and family and support staff.

Moira Shire Chair, Panel of Administrators John Tanner AM said “Beyond the competition, these games foster an environment of inclusivity and support, while simultaneously contributing economic benefits to our community. Athletes, accompanied by their teams and supporters, converge from diverse locations, injecting life into our area.

Amidst the Commonwealth Games’ cancellation, the Tri State Games provide us with an opportunity to celebrate sportsmanship and unity.”

The Tri State Games provides disability awareness opportunities to the community hosting the games through the training and inclusion of local volunteers, sporting and service clubs and community groups.

The games begin with an opening ceremony on Monday 13 November 2023 from 9am that includes a street parade and the raising of the Tri State Games flag. All community members are invited, the parade will start at Federation Park and travel down Punt Road, Cobram between Dillon, and Williams Streets and then onto Mivo Park. We invite everyone to attend to cheer the athletes on followed by the official opening ceremony at Mivo Park.

Mayor of Berrigan Shire Cr. Julia Cornwell McKean said it was a great cross border effort to make a successful pitch for this event that would see the whole region buzzing for a full week of competition.

“This is such a wonderful event for our community. I encourage everyone to get involved, from volunteer groups to our retail, hospitality and accommodation providers, so that the athletes and their families and supporters have a truly memorable experience.”
