Trio Charged After Fleeing Police In Stolen Car

Whittlesea Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged three teenage boys after tracking an allegedly stolen vehicle across Melbourne on 24 June.

Officers were alerted to an alleged attempted theft of a car in Lawson Street in Essendon about 1.30am.

Details of a blue Mazda CX5 that was witnessed at the scene were passed on to police and the car was allegedly spotted in Albert Street, Preston about 1.45am.

It is alleged the Mazda sped off from police and the Air Wing was called in.

The Air Wing followed the car to parkland on Heritage Drive in Springvale, where one of the occupants of the car got out and allegedly tried to access a nearby vehicle.

Police were quickly on scene and the Mazda drove off, but police were able to chase down the youth who had exited the vehicle and place him under arrest.

The Air Wing continued to keep observations on the car which allegedly drove up and down the Monash several times before exiting onto main roads.

Police were able to successfully deploy vehicle immobilising devices on Springvale Road about 2.45am and bring the car to a halt in Brandon Park.

Officers arrested three youths at the scene.

Investigators allege the Mazda was stolen from a recreation reserve in Bentleigh on 23 June.

A 13-year-old Noble Park boy was charged with theft of motor vehicle and will appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A 15-year-old Dandenong North boy was charged with theft of motor vehicle, deal property suspected to be proceeds of crime and traffic offences and will appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A 13-year-old Springvale boy was charged with theft of motor vehicle and will appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A 13-year-old Hampton Park boy was released with a caution.
