Trio charged after spate of offending in Melbourne’s east

Detectives from Boroondara and Manningham Crime Investigation Units have arrested three teenage boys following an alleged series of incidents in Melbourne’s east yesterday morning.

A 17-year-old from the Greater Shepparton area, a 15-year-old from the Manningham area and a 17-year-old from the Manningham area were yesterday arrested by detectives at an address in the Darebin area.

The 17-year-old from the Greater Shepparton area was charged with:

  • (x4) aggravated burglary
  • (x2) burglary
  • attempted theft from motor vehicle
  • (x2) theft
  • (x2) theft of motor vehicle
  • attempted aggravated burglary
  • commit indictable offence on bail.

The 15-year-old from the Manningham area and the 17-year-old from the Manningham were both charged with:

  • (4x) aggravated burglary
  • attempted theft from motor vehicle
  • (2x) theft
  • (2x) burglary
  • (2x) theft of motor vehicle
  • attempted aggravated burglary.

The charges follow several alleged incidents in the early hours of 28 August, including:

  • An aggravated burglary at a residence on Sweyn Street in Balwyn North about 1.35am.
  • An aggravated burglary at a residence on Sweyn Street in Balwyn North about 1.40am.
  • An attempted theft from motor vehicle at a residence on Magnolia Drive in Templestowe about 2.25am.
  • An aggravated burglary and theft of motor vehicle at a residence in Lindsay Street in Bulleen about 3.50am where an Audi was stolen. The vehicle was recovered nearby.
  • An aggravated burglary, attempted theft of motor vehicle and theft from motor vehicle at a residence on Gilbert Street in Bulleen about 3.55am.
  • An aggravated burglary at a residence on Riverview Road in Balwyn North about 4.50am where a set of car keys were stolen.
  • A theft of motor vehicle from a residence on Longview Road in Balwyn North about 4.55am where a Volkswagen Golf was stolen. The vehicle was recovered by detectives while searching the address in Darebin.
  • An attempted aggravated burglary and theft from motor vehicle at a residence on Unwin Street in Templestowe about 5.30am.
  • An aggravated burglary at a residence on Pine Lodge Court in Templestowe about 5.45am.

The trio were remanded to appear before a children’s court today.
