Triple fatality crash at Arundel, QLD

Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash at Arundel this afternoon, which resulted in the death of three people.

Around 12.24pm, emergency services were called to Brisbane Road with reports of a collision between a black sedan and a semi-trailer towing a boat.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the black sedan, carrying four occupants, was travelling eastbound along Brisbane Road when it crossed the median strip into the westbound lanes, collided with a street-light, then continued and collided head-on with a semi-trailer towing a boat.

The street-light then came down, damaging a third vehicle.

Despite the best attempts of paramedics and witnesses who rendered first-aid; the two rear-passengers of the black sedan – a 48-year-old woman and 47-year-old woman from Pimpama – sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The 50-year-old male driver from Pimpama was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition where he later died from his injuries.

The third front-passenger – a 49-year-old Ashmore man – was transported to the same hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The truck-driver did not receive any physical injuries but was treated at the scene by paramedics for shock.

The occupants of the third vehicle, a man and woman, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Paramedics also treated two occupants of a fourth vehicle who witnessed the crash for shock.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
