Truck collides with cyclist in Footscray

Westgate Highway Patrol officers are appealing for public assistance after a cyclist was hit by a truck in Footscray yesterday.

It is believed a cyclist was travelling south on Whitehall Road when a white Mitsubishi prime mover with an empty container collided with the rider at the intersection of Somerville Road about 4pm.

The truck driver, a 60-year-old St Albans man, stopped at the scene to assist.

The cyclist, a 22-year-old Yarraville man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators believe a number of witnesses left the scene prior to police arrival and are keen to speak to them.
