Truck driver charged after pedestrian suffers severe leg injuries in Guildford

A man has been charged after a pedestrian’s leg was partially severed after being hit by a truck at Guildford this morning.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended Woodville Road about 6.15am (Monday 25 February 2019), after a pedestrian was struck by a truck – which allegedly failed to stop.

The pedestrian, a 79-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital to undergo surgery. He’s described as being in a serious condition.

The southbound lanes of Woodville Road were closed for several hours while the scene was examined by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

The truck driver later returned to the scene to speak with police; and the 57-year-old man was taken to Granville Police Station.

The truck has been seized for forensic examination.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving (occasion grievous bodily harm).

The Guildford man was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 9 April 2019.

As inquiries continue, any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, anyone with information or dash cam footage is urged to come forward.
