Truck Loses Its Load On North-South Motorway

Two pedestrians are lucky to be alive after a truck lost its load on the North-South Motorway, Bolivar this morning.

Just after 10.30am on Friday 10 July, vehicles merged into the southbound lane in front of a truck laden with concrete slabs on the North-South Motorway, Bolivar.

The truck lost its load, with two 15-tonne concrete segments falling into the roadway and impacting three cars parked on the side of the road.

Two pedestrians were standing next to a broken-down vehicle on the shoulder of the road and were struck by the parked cars.

One of the pedestrians was taken to hospital by ambulance with a suspected broken arm.

Two other people sustained minor injuries.

All vehicles were towed away, and a crane was required to clear the scene.

Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Unit officers attended and examined the scene and vehicles.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.

Police are amazed that no one was killed during this incident.

This incident serves as a reminder that all road users have a responsibility to help keep South Australian roads safe. Motorists should allow heavy vehicles the space and stopping distance they need, and drivers transporting loads must ensure they are properly secured before commencing their journey.
