TU/e in global top-50 of Engineering & Technology universities

TU/e has made it into the global top-50 universities in the field of Engineering & Technology, in the QS World University rankings by subject published today. The university has risen from 68th to 50th place. That’s a big jump for the second year in a row.

This leading position is the result of the sum of the performances in all subject areas within the university. The four highest ranked areas of TU/e are:

– Statistics & Operational Research (rank 29)

– Chemical Engineering (rank 35)

– Mechanical Engineering (rank 37)

– Architecture/Built Environment (rank 50)

In the QS categories Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry and Mathematics, TU/e has been stable in the QS top 100 for years.

Scientific quality

The QS ranking is a list in which especially the scientific quality is important. QS compiles the ranking on the basis of two reputation surveys and two indicators of citations for scientific publications. The rise of TU/e on the QS list is largely due to the improved academic reputation of TU/e and a more positive image as an employer.

Cooperation with industry

At TU/e, scientific quality is often (but not exclusively) intertwined with research cooperation with industry. The university traditionally ranks among the world’s best in this respect. That is no surprise, since TU/e was established on Eindhoven industry’s initiative, and with the clear mission to educate engineers for and cooperate with the regional companies.

We occupy a top five position worldwide when it comes to publishing together with industrial R&D-partners, and the number of senior industrial R&D professionals that also hold a professorship at TU/e. On top of that, people from business and industry regard Eindhoven alumni as the best candidates for jobs where Engineers of the future are required.
