I’m excited to announce that the first meeting of our Walking and Cycling Advisory Group will be held this week.

We are thrilled to have six local walking and cycling enthusiasts join the group – and I’m sure their local knowledge will be invaluable moving forward.

The group will work with Council, government and key organisations officers to provide advice to Council on the implementation and recommendations of the Central Goldfields Shire Walking and Cycling Strategy 2017-2026.

Given our Shire is renowned for its various walking and cycling tracks, our role will be to improve the existing network and develop the walking and cycling tracks to be more user friendly and accessible to locals and visitors alike.

We’ll keep our community updated on the progress of the group over the coming months.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas in the Central Goldfields! Last week saw the installation of Christmas decorations across the Shire including Maryborough, Bealiba, Carisbrook Dunolly, Majorca and Talbot.

Spreading the joy of Christmas, especially after such a challenging year was important to our Council. We’ve been able to invest a little bit extra into our Christmas display with some new additional decorations introduced.

We hope it brings a little bit of extra cheer to our community and it would be wonderful to see family and friends get together and enjoy the display.

It’s been a tough few years for many businesses in our Shire and so, if you can, we encourage you to support our local retail and hospitality businesses this Christmas.

Wishing you all a safe and happy festive season!
