Twelve new social homes for seniors underway in Brunswick

  • Twelve new social homes for seniors to age in place in Brunswick in the Shire of Harvey
  • Funded through a nearly $5 million housing grant from the Cook Government

Construction has commenced on 12 new social homes in Brunswick, funded by the Cook Labor Government’s community housing grants.

The new homes will be for seniors in Brunswick and are being built by the Shire of Harvey with a $4.98 million New Builds Grant from the Cook Government. The new homes in the Brunswick River Cottages development are being constructed by D Prosser Pty Ltd.

The Cook Government’s Community Housing Grants (formerly SHERP) are providing millions of dollars in support to local governments and the community housing sector to deliver new social homes and refurbish existing social homes across metropolitan and regional Western Australian.

As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:

“Our Government continues to do everything we can to bolster the supply of housing – and we’re delivering 12 new social homes in the Shire of Harvey.

“The 12 new homes are being built under a partnership between Brunswick River Cottages and the Shire of Harvey, through a nearly $5 million grant from the Cook Labor Government.

“These new homes are being delivered as a direct result of our Government’s record $2.6 billion investment in housing and homeless measures.

“Since our record investment in housing and homelessness measures, we’ve added more than 2,000 new social homes, and another 1,000 are under construction or contract.”

Comments attributed to Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:

“I’m very pleased to have Minister Carey travel to Brunswick to see the construction works on these 12 new social homes for seniors at Brunswick River Cottages, of which all three stages of works have been funded by the WA Labor Government.

“It’s vital we ensure we are delivering homes where they are needed for vulnerable people in the Murray-Wellington community and assist people where possible to age in place.”
