Two arrested as part of investigation into fatal Dandenong shooting

Detectives from Taskforce Sector have today executed a number of warrants across Melbourne and arrested two men as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of Mitat Rasimi in Dandenong earlier this year.

Warrants were executed at eight residential properties in Hampton Park, Hallam, Dandenong, Endeavour Hills (2), Deer Park, Seaford and Narre Warren South from 5am.

A 26-year-old Hallam man and a 25-year-old Hampton Park man were arrested and both will now be interviewed by police.

Detectives from across Crime Command including the Homicide Squad and Echo Taskforce, the Special Operations Group and the Dog Squad, as well as AFP members, were also involved in this morning’s raids.

Today’s arrests and warrants form part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of Dandenong man Mitat Rasimi, who was fatally shot in Dandenong on Sunday, 3 March 2019.

The 51-year-old had been driving a car at the time of his murder and was found by police, unresponsive and with a number of gunshot wounds, crashed into a pole in Dawn Avenue.

Last month police released CCTV footage of a stolen orange Ford Ranger utility that is believed to be linked to the shooting, as well as footage of a man seen walking to and from that car.

The Ford was later set alight on McMahens Road in Bangholme about 30 minutes after the shooting.

Taskforce Sector was established earlier this year in response to a number of fatal shootings, in order to determine any possible links between the incidents.

This included an incident where two people were shot and killed outside a Prahran nightclub in April.
