Two charged after firearms, drugs seized – Tamworth

Two people have been charged after firearms and drugs were seized in the state’s west.

About 6am on Tuesday 1 September 2026, officers attached to Western Region Operations Support Group executed a search warrant at a home on Baird Crescent, Tamworth.

During the search, police allegedly located and seized a number of weapons, a taser and a privately manufactured firearm.

Police also allegedly located and seized an amount of methylamphetamine, MDMA, cocaine, cannabis and GHB.

While police were at the home, a 39-year-old man arrived at the location in a vehicle.

Police subsequently searched the vehicle and allegedly located a firearm, nunchakus, an amount of prohibited drugs, buprenorphine and knuckledusters.

The 39-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

The man was charged with 12 offences:

  • Possess unauthorised firearm
  • Acquire etc firearm – subject to prohibition order
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order
  • Fail to comply digital evidence access order direction
  • Custody of knife in public place – subsequent offence
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Firearm etc found at premises-subject to prohibition order
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Drive while licence cancelled

The woman was charged with 10 offences:

  • Possess prohibited drug (three counts)
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (two counts)
  • Goods suspected stolen in/on premises (not motor vehicle/vessel) (two counts)
  • Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority
  • Possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority
  • Not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm

Both were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 5 today (Thursday 3 September 2026).
