Two charged after pursuit of stolen vehicle – Murray River

Two men have been charged with numerous offences after a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle in the state’s Murray River region.

About 6pm on Monday 6 March 2023, a utility was stolen by two men from the driveway of a home in Davidson Street, Deniliquin.

When the owner, a 24-year-old tried to stop the vehicle, he was allegedly assaulted before the vehicle was driven away.

The matter was reported to officers from Murray River Police District, who commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

On Tuesday 7 March 2023, the stolen utility was involved in a pursuit with police in the Moama area. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Racecourse Road at Deniliquin.

Following inquiries, about 3pm on Wednesday 8 March 2023, two men were arrested at a house on Sloane Street, Deniliquin. They were taken to Deniliquin Police Station where they were charged.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with steal motor vehicle, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop and drive dangerously, drive while disqualified, enter enclosed lands without lawful excuse, stealing, and stalk/intimidate – intend fear/physical harm.

The 23-year-old man was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and assault.

The men were refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Thursday 9 March 2023).
