Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two men after an alleged stolen car containing jerry cans and baseball bats was tracked across Melbourne yesterday morning.
The police Air Wing spotted the black Chrysler allegedly speeding along Ferntree Gully Road in Oakleigh East about 3.50am.
The car was followed by the chopper across the eastern suburbs, before it stopped at a service station on Highbury Road in Burwood about 4.10am.
Officers continued to track the vehicle to the Heidelberg West area where stop sticks were successfully deployed.
With it’s tyres disintegrating, the Chrysler came to a stop on Travers Street in Thomastown and both the driver and passenger fled on foot.
Shortly after, with the assistance of the Dog Squad, the duo was located and taken into custody.
Police searched the stolen vehicle and allegedly located jerry cans and baseball bats.
The 20-year-old Box Hill North man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police, drive in a manner dangerous, drive whilst disqualified, fail to render assistance after accident, possess methylamphetamine, assault police and two counts of assault other emergency worker.
The 27-year-old Burwood man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police, drive in a manner dangerous, reckless driving, possess methylamphetamines, unlicensed driving, going equipped to steal and breaching bail.
Both appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last night where the 27-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 2 July.
The 20-year-old was bailed to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 25 June.
It is alleged the Chrysler was stolen from a residential property in Pakenham on 14 June.
