Two charged, driver sought when stolen car crashes – Granville

Two people have been charged and a third is being sought after a stolen car crashed during a pursuit in Sydney’s west overnight.

Officers from Auburn Police Area Command were patrolling Alice Street, Auburn, about 8.30pm yesterday (Sunday 3 December 2023), when they attempted to stop an SUV, which had been reported stolen from Auburn last Wednesday (29 November 2023).

A pursuit was initiated when the driver allegedly failed to stop; it continued to Railway Parade, Granville, where it hit four parked – and unoccupied – vehicles and rolled onto its roof.

The driver left the scene, and police arrested two passengers.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 35-year-old man before taking him to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. He was released into police custody about 3am today (Monday 4 December 2023), and was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged.

The man, from Wentworthville, has now been charged with enter vehicle with consent of owner, be carried in conveyance without consent of owner, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty. He has been refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Monday 4 December 2023).

A 41-year-old woman was taken to Granville Police Station where she has been charged with enter vehicle with consent of owner, be carried in conveyance without consent of owner, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, passenger not disclose driver’s/other passenger’s identity. She’s been conditionally bailed to appear in Burwood Local Court on 19 December 2023.

A number of items – suspected to have been stolen – were found in the crashed vehicle. They’ve been taken for further examination.
