Academy Award® winner Sam Rockwell and acclaimed director Claire Denis are the next two protagonists in the digital conversation series organized by Mastercard to celebrate the 77th Venice International Film Festival

September 8, 2020 – The “Life Through a Different Lens: Contactless Connections” series, a digital event organized by Mastercard in collaboration with La Biennale di Venezia to celebrate the 77th Venice International Film Festival, continues with Sam Rockwell and Claire Denis.

Academy Award® winner Sam Rockwell has established himself as one of the most versatile actors of his generation, with an array of emotionally searing and complex roles defining his body of work.

Rockwell won the Academy Award®, Screen Actors Guild Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Critics Choice, and Independent Spirit Award. Among his successful films, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Vice, Fosse/Verdon, Richard Jewell, Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, Matchstick Men, Seven Psychopaths, The Way, Way Back, Frost/Nixon, The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, Moon, The Green Mile, and many others. Rockwell is not only a star on the big screen, as he has owned the stage in a number of theatrical productions, including his most recent performance in Sam Shepherd’s Broadway play Fool For Love.

The master Claire Denis explored different genre of cinema in her career. She wrote and directed her first feature film, Chocolat in 1988. She won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival with Nénette et Boni. This film would be followed by Beau Travail (1999), Trouble Every Day (2001), Vendredi soir (2002), 35 Shots of Rum (2008), White Material (2009) and Bastards (2013). In the last years she released Let the Sunshine in with Juliette Binoche, and High Life, starring Juliette Binoche and Robert Pattinson. In 2021 she will direct Robert Pattinson again in The Stars at Noon, based on the novel of the same name by Denis Johnson. Claire Denis has written most of her films in collaboration with Jean-Pol Fargeau.

The “Life Through a Different Lens: Contactless Connections” Conversation Series are an opportunity to bring young people closer to cinema and creative experiences. In this exclusive series of events, we will explore the role of the director, actor, cinematographer and all those in the film world, in building the stories that not only help us see life through a different lens but connect us to new worlds, changed worlds and different worlds, filled with priceless possibilities.

Sam Rockwell and Claire Denis join this extraordinary series of conversations after Demi Moore Nadine Labaki, Gia Coppola, Wim Wenders and Luca Guadagnino. They will share their thoughts on how great cinema can drive different perspectives, trigger myriad emotions and influence our lives from the moment the film begins.
