Two dead, two injured in crash in Walcha

Inquiries continue after two people died and two were injured in a single vehicle crash in the state’s north-west.

About 1.15pm (Thursday 3 January 2018), a Toyota Prado towing a caravan was travelling east on the Oxley Highway, 45km east of Walcha, when it collided with an Armco railing then a tree.

The front seat passenger, a 72-year-old woman, and rear seat passenger, a 38-year-old man, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver, a 58-year-old man, and a 38-year-old female backseat passenger, were taken to Tamworth Base Hospital by hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was subject to a mandatory blood test.

The vehicle also contained two dogs and a cat. One dog died, and one survived. The cat has not been located.

Police from Northern Tableland Crash Investigation Unit are continuing with inquiries into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
