Two drink drivers and series of unfortunate events

Two drink drivers were caught after crashing their cars at Waterloo Corner this morning.

About 1am Thursday 6 July emergency services were called to the North South Motorway after a black Jeep that had been heading north lost control and crashed into the centre median barrier.

When police arrived they parked their car behind the crashed vehicle with their emergency lights activated and went to speak to the driver.

The driver, a 34-year-old Smithfield man, was breath tested allegedly returning a positive reading of 0.236 – Almost five times the limit!

As police were conducting the breath test a silver Mitsubishi Magna that was travelling north crashed into the rear of the parked police car!

The police officers were thankfully not injured and went and spoke to the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 56-year-old Hove man. He was also breath tested allegedly returning a positive reading of 0.183!

The first man was reported for drink driving, while the second man was reported for drink driving and driving without due care.

Both men lost their licences on the spot for 12 months and their cars were towed from the scene and impounded for 28 days. They will both be summonsed to Court at a later date.
