Two global cities brought closer together

The Sydney Business Chamber says Qantas’ inaugural direct flight from New York to Sydney that landed this morning, will cement the city’s standing as Australia’s only truly global city.

“This world-first flight heralds a new chapter in securing closer ties with one of our major trading partners, enhancing Sydney’s reputation as the international business hub of the Asia Pacific region,” said Katherine O’Regan, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber.

“Having direct flights to Sydney from the city that never sleeps is another step in promoting Sydney as the number one destination for business travellers and tourists alike.”

“It’s symbolic of Sydney’s determination to be the city of choice for doing business in our region.”

“When Qantas brings these direct services on board, Sydney will only be an hour longer flight from NYC than it is to our international business competitor, Singapore.”

“It will help drive closer ties with companies headquartered in New York and spread Sydney’s reputation as the place to do business, reducing flight time by hours and maximising time on the ground for travellers to our country.”
