Two handguns seized; Windang man arrested, NSW

A man will face court today charged after Raptor Squad officers seized two firearms from a home in the state’s Illawarra.

About 10.30am yesterday (Monday 29 November 2021), Raptor Squad detectives attended a home on Kurrajong Road at Windang for the purpose of a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) search.

At the time, the occupants – a man and woman aged 29 and 37 – weren’t at the address and returned to the home a short time later.

Police allege the duo arrived in a black Ford Ranger being driven by the 29-year-old, who is a disqualified driver. He was arrested.

During a subsequent search of the home, officers located two handguns and a butterfly knife.

A crime scene warrant was applied for and executed, during which police seized the two pistols, numerous bank cards, two mobile phones, ammunition and two car keys.

All items will undergo further forensic examination and the firearms will be subject to ballistic examinations.

The woman was arrested and taken with the 29-year-old man to Lake Illawarra Police Station, however, was later released pending further inquiries.

The man was charged with nine offences, including two counts of possess unauthorised pistol, acquire etc pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order, acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order, possess ammunition without holding licence or permit or authority, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order, goods suspected stolen in or on premises, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period – 1st offence.

The Windang man was refused bail to face Wollongong Local Court later today (Tuesday 30 November 2021).
