At this week’s Council meeting, Campaspe Shire Council noted the progress of two key recreational projects –Echuca East Community Precinct and Gunbower Lions Park.

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said the projects have been designed to meet the needs of people within the community.

“These exciting projects have been developed in consultation with the local community to ensure individuals and groups benefit from the improved facilities,” Cr Weston said.

The Echuca East Community Precinct master plan has been approved with the detailed design including landscaping and the multi-purpose building design nearing completion.

The design has been developed in consultation with current and potential users.

“Construction of the multi purpose building and playground will be stage one of the two stage project,” Cr Weston said.

“The second stage will involve construction of dog areas and open space.”

Elements excluded from the loan funded project are the bike skills area and the Sutton Street car park. Funding for these remaining areas will need to be sourced via alternative means.

“This is an exciting project for Echuca East that will see a barren area converted to a play space that will improve the health and wellbeing of the local community,” the Mayor added.

The Gunbower Lions Park project has progressed from concept design. Initial elements of this project have involved engaging with the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation and other key stakeholders including the Gunbower community.

“Council has appointed a preferred consultant for the detailed design and this stage of the project is anticipated to be finalised by September,” Cr Weston said.

The project includes a new playground, path network and fishing and canoe platform.
