Two men have been charged after allegedly attempting to use a drone to deliver drugs and other contraband into a correctional facility in the states south yesterday.
About 1.10pm (Friday 25 September 2026), officers attached to Monaro Police District were notified to reports of a drone flying in prohibited airspace above a correctional facility in Cooma.
Following inquiries, police attended a nearby park on Barrack Street, where they located and spoke with two men, aged 31 and 38.
During a search of the men and a nearby vehicle, officers allegedly located a drone box and controller, mobile phones, and SIM cards.
Following inquiries, officers allegedly located and seized a drone with an attached package from a nearby creek.
During a search of the package, police allegedly located and seized an amount of tobacco, prohibited drugs, a mobile phone, and several other items.
The items were seized for forensic examination.
The two men were arrested and taken to Cooma police station, where they were both charged with;
– Operate remotely piloted aircraft within prohibited airspace,
– Unlawfully deliver or attempt to deliver anything to inmate, and
– Supply cannabis over indictable and less than commercial quantity.
They were both refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today (Saturday 26 September 2026).
