A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly hitting two men with a car on the state’s mid north coast yesterday.
About 3.40pm (Tuesday 13 April 2021), a 34-year-old man driving a silver Mitsubishi Pajero entered the driveway of a home on Eric Kennedy Street, West Kempsey, when he was allegedly approached by another man, aged 23.
Following an argument, the older man drove towards the younger man, allegedly striking him with the car.
The younger man ran from the scene, followed by the driver of the Pajero who collided with a mailbox, wheelie bin and a number of fences before allegedly running over a second man, aged 46, on another property on the same street.
The man continued driving before police arrived and he was arrested.
The 46-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Port Macquarie District Hospital with a suspected fractured pelvis, punctured lung and internal bleeding. He is in a serious but stable condition.
The 23-year-old was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.
The 34-year-old man was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail to appear in Kempsey Local Court today (Wednesday 14 April 2021).
Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District established a crime scene and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
