Two new commissioners appointed to WAIRC

  • Charmaine Tsang and Timothy Kucera appointed commissioners at the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission
  • Both have extensive experience in employment law and industrial relations matters
  • Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston today announced two new appointments to the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

    Charmaine Tsang has been appointed from July 18, 2022, while Timothy Kucera will start on August 29, 2022.

    Prior to her appointment, Ms Tsang was partner of the Perth Employment & Safety team at global law firm HFW.

    She has more than 17 years’ experience advising on employment, industrial relations, and work health and safety matters.

    Mr Kucera has more than 30 years’ experience as an employment law specialist and industrial officer for various unions.

    Prior to his appointment, he was the State Secretary of the United Professional Firefighters Union of WA, representing firefighters and fire safety officers.

    As stated by Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston:

    “I’m very pleased to announce the appointments of Charmaine Tsang and Timothy Kucera to the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

    “Ms Tsang and Mr Kucera bring a wealth of experience to the commission and will ensure it is sufficiently resourced to carry out its important and expanding functions.

    “The McGowan Government has passed laws to reform industrial relations and work health and safety in this State, as well as introducing a compensation scheme for medically retired police officers.

    “The commission has an important role to play in overseeing these laws as they roll out in WA workplaces.

    “I congratulate Ms Tsang and Mr Kucera on their appointments.”
