Two new dog parks have opened in Berwick and Endeavour Hills, giving Casey’s dogs more space to exercise and socialise, while creating welcoming places for residents to connect and enjoy the outdoors.
On Wednesday 14 October, City of Casey Mayor Cr Michelle Crowther; Casuarina Ward Councillor Kim Ross; Kalora Ward Councillor Melinda Ambros; Member for Narre Warren North Belinda Wilson MP; Michael Galea MP; and Lee Tarlamis MP visited the new parks at Sweeney Reserve and Essex Park Drive Reserve.
The park at Sweeney Reserve in Berwick was delivered with the assistance of a $240,000 grant from the Victorian State Government’s New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program, plus $210,300 from Council’s Capital Works Program. The park includes a sandpit, boulders and tree logs, as well as a dog waste bin with bag dispenser, shelter, seating and a drinking fountain. Native and exotic trees were also planted as part of the project.
Essex Park Drive Reserve is home to the first-ever dog park in Endeavour Hills, which was also funded via the New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program. A $480,000 grant funded the design and delivery of the new dog park, featuring a fenced off-leash area, drinking fountain with dog bowl, seating and shelter, waste bag dispensers, path connections and landscaping.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Michelle Crowther said Council is committed to providing high-quality dog friendly spaces across the municipality and acknowledges the important role they play in providing a safe space for both animals and owners to use.
“Anyone who owns a dog, knows that they are often the reason we get outside, meet our neighbours and connect with our community,” she said.
“It’s wonderful to see families and their pets already making the most of these new parks and I would like to thank the Victorian State Government for helping us deliver this valuable community spaces.”
