Two officers assaulted in Lidcombe

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting two police officers in Lidcombe this morning.

About 10am (Saturday 30 March 2019), police attended a service station on Joseph Street, due to a 23-year-old man breaching a prior-issued move-on direction.

Whilst police were trying to arrest him, the man ran from officers and tripped over.

He then assaulted the officers who were trying to arrest him, by allegedly kicking one officer in the face and bitting him on the thumb, and spitting in the face of another officer as he was being placed in the rear of the caged vehicle.

When officers searched the man, they allegedly located a knife in his possession.

The man was taken to Auburn Police Station and charged with assault police occasioning actual bodily harm, assault police, resist arrest, custody of knife in public place, malicious damage, shoplifting, and fail to comply with move-on direction.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Sunday 31 March 2019).

Both officers attended Auburn Hospital, where one underwent scans on his left hand, and the other underwent blood tests due to being spat on.
