Two police spat on; man charged in Eastern Beaches

A man has been charged after he allegedly spat on police as they attempted to arrest him in La Perouse yesterday.

About 4pm (Monday 16 November 2020), officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were called to Yarra Bay Beach following reports of a brawl.

Police arrived to find a man, with a black eye, in nearby Bicentennial Parkland. Officers approached the man and attempted to establish his identity, however, the man refused to comply.

It’s alleged he grabbed one of the officer’s arms and attempted to throw a punch him before he was handcuffed and placed into waiting ambulance.

As they were loading the man into the back of the ambulance, he allegedly spat at two police officers. Once he was inside, he then kicked up at the roof of the ambulance smashing the interior light.

The Bardwell Valley man was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital before being released into police custody and taken to Maroubra Police Station where he has been charged six offences, assault police in the execution of their duty (four counts), resist police, and malicious damage.

He has been refused bail and will appear in Waverley Local Court today (Tuesday 17 November 2020).
