Two pursuits after cars stolen in Smithfield

Police are investigating after two pursuits in Sydney’s west last night.

About 9:30pm (Saturday 16 February 2019) police attempted to stop a Volkswagen Golf on Coonawarra Street, Edensor Park after it was seen travelling without number plates.

The Volkswagen sped off and after a short pursuit it stopped on Belfield Road, Bossley Park.

The two occupants fled the vehicle and were seen by police entering a crowd gathered outside a community hall where a function was being held.

Police from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended the location but could not locate the pair in the crowd.

At about the same time police attempted to stop a Chrysler, also without number plates, on Prairie Vale Road, Bossley Park.

A short pursuit commenced, before the vehicle was located abandoned at the intersection of Glen Logan Crescent and Ararat Close and the occupants fled on foot.

Despite a search of the area, they could not be located.

Following inquiries police identified both vehicles had been stolen from a holding yard in Woodpark Road, Smithfield.

Both cars have been seized and will be forensically examined as inquiries continue.
