Two youths charged after evade incident in Southern Tasmania

Police have charged two male youths following an evade incident in Risdon Vale this morning.

Around 8am a red Lancer evaded police on the East Derwent Highway. It was spiked and intercepted by police a short time later with four people taken into custody for investigation.

Two 16-year-old male youths have been charged with multiple offences and will face the Youth Justice Court at a later date. Two other people were released without charge.

“The police investigation is ongoing and we ask anyone who saw a red Lancer, registration DQ8706, driving dangerously yesterday afternoon around the Glenorchy area, or this morning around the Lindisfarne area, to contact police,” said Acting Inspector Brenda Orr.

“Dangerous driving like this puts the driver and others at risk of serious injury and death. It also causes unnecessary concern in the community when considerable police resources are deployed to an area.

“I’d like to thank the community for their support and assistance this morning in identifying and locating the four offenders,” said Acting Inspector Orr.

Anyone who saw the vehicle driving dangerously is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
