Learner drivers will access invaluable information and experiences as part of the Ultimate Learner Log Book Run on Sunday 24 March.
Shellharbour, Kiama and Wollongong councils are providing the run in collaboration with local police, emergency services and community members to L-Plate drivers and their supervisors.
This year’s event also features Project U-Turn, which aims to develop and deliver a community and stakeholder-focused local action plan to reduce motorist flood fatalities.
The project will analyse a broad range of data and work with council and local stakeholders to discuss key hotspots within the Shellharbour LGA where solutions will be factored into a local action plan.
The two-hour drive will also take participants to various locations to hear talks and see demonstrations by the SES Crash Investigation Unit in Kiama and the Oak Flats Fire and Rescue team.
The police will brief the drivers at the Lake Illawarra PCYC and the drive will include a Random Breath Testing unit stop along the way.
“The lessons taken from this log book run could stay with them for their driving careers and potentially save their lives,” said Mayor Marianne Saliba.
“This course will highlight the importance of driving with caution, following the road rules and acting responsibly when using the road,” Cr Saliba said.
The course is open to any learner driver with more than 40 logbook hours and includes two hours driving on a planned route and reverse parking tuition.
The event will be held 8.30am to 2.30pm, starting and finishing at Lake Illawarra PCYC.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided for all participants.
