As part of our commitment to keeping Tasmanians safe, $46 million will be allocated in the upcoming State Budget over the next four years to ensure Tasmania Police has the best possible ICT systems, to better respond to and solve crime.
The State Budget will fund the next stage of Project Unify – an initiative designed to deliver an integrated and sophisticated operational information system for Tasmania Police, replacing a number of disparate, disconnected and ageing ICT systems that support policing operations.
There is no doubt that moving to this new technology will improve how we respond to and solve crime, ultimately resulting in a safer working environment for police, and better outcomes for our communities.
This additional funding will also deliver an online crime reporting function where members of the public can use an online portal to report certain categories of crime.
The new functionality and integration will be across a range of operational areas including property management, family violence and crime management.
Importantly this also represents a significant opportunity for the Tasmanian ICT sector that we know has the skill and expertise to successfully compete for this investment and create jobs.
This new funding of $46 million is in addition to the $13.1 million provided in 2017-18 for the first stage of the project that was successfully completed in late 2019.
Phase One delivered the new system ‘Atlas’ providing police with improved access to criminal intelligence, and a new approach to the management of warrants, missing persons and searches. It also included a integrated search application known as ‘Compass’.
The Tasmanian Government is committed to providing Tasmania Police with contemporary systems and technology to increase the safety and efficiency of our police officers, while better protecting our communities.
