Unlawful use of motor vehicle, Belgian Gardens and Cranbrook

Police are investigating multiple incidents involving stolen vehicles in Townsville last night.

Between 1am and 2.20am, a Toyota Hilux was stolen from Limerick Way, Mt Low. Around 2.50am, emergency services were called to Belmont Park Avenue, Kirwan and located the Hilux ablaze.

Around 3.25am, a stolen Holden Commodore was used to ram a Nissan 370Z in the car park of a youth detention facility on Old Common Road, Belgian Gardens.

Around 3.40am, it is believed the same stolen Holden Commodore was used to ram the entry of a tobacconist on Ross River Road, Cranbrook. Once entry was gained, multiple people stole cigarettes, tobacco, cigarette lighters, soft drinks and phone chargers.

The Commodore, which was stolen on November 15 from Coolidge Street, Mt Louisa, was located abandoned at Pine Street, Kirwan a short time later.

Townsville District Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said police were investigating to find those responsible.

“Police condemn this stupid behaviour and are working to find the people responsible and put them before the courts.”
