Unlicensed driver charged over assault, carjacking, NSW

An unlicensed driver will appear in court today after he allegedly punched a man before stealing his car on the Central Coast.

About 10.30am yesterday (Thursday 27 August 2020), a 30-year-old man was returning to his car in a Lake Haven carpark in Wyong when he was allegedly confronted by another man, aged 18.

Police will allege the older man was punched in the face and knocked to the ground before his car keys were stolen.

The 18-year-old man entered the vehicle before allegedly reversing towards two people – forcing them to jump out of the way – and driving from the scene.

The 30-year-old man was taken to Wyong Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, the 18-year-old man was arrested at Campbelltown Police Station about 7pm yesterday.

He was charged with aggravated take/drive motor vehicle with person in/on it – inflict actual bodily harm, and drive while unlicensed.

The Minto man was refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 28 August 2020).
