Unlicensed driver in court over pursuit in stolen vehicle in Sydney CBD, NSW

An unlicensed driver will face court today charged over an alleged police pursuit in a stolen car in Sydney’s CBD.

About 1.45am on Sunday 19 January 2020, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were conducting proactive patrols around Broadway, when they saw a Porsche Cayenne turn onto George Street, allegedly disobeying a ‘no entry’ sign.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, a police pursuit was initiated but was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

Just before 2am the same day, police responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on the Anzac Bridge, Pyrmont.

The occupants of the Mitsubishi were not injured while the unoccupied Porsche, allegedly stolen from the ACT in January 2020, was seized to undergo forensic examination.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 31-year-old man at a unit complex in Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, about 5.20pm yesterday (Thursday 13 February 2020).

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive while unlicensed, drive conveyance taken without owner’s consent, not give particulars, and breach of bail.

The man was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Friday 14 February 2020).
