Moorabbin Highway Patrol officers were left shaking their heads after impounding a car in Braeside on Wednesday morning.
Officers were performing routine laser checks on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway when they detected a Toyota Corolla travelling at 156km/h in a 100km/h zone shortly before 1am.
Police intercepted the vehicle and spoke to the 28-year-old driver who did not have a driver’s licence.
It went from bad to worse for the Lyndhurst man, as a roadside breath test was positive for alcohol.
He returned an alleged reading of .126, before also testing positive for illicit drugs in an oral fluid test.
His vehicle was immediately impounded for 30 days with towing costs of $969.80.
It is expected the man will be charged on summons with driving at a speed dangerous, exceeding the speed limit, unlicensed driving, drug driving and drink driving.
