Below is an update about upcoming disruptions on the Monash and Princes freeways as part of Stage 2 of the Monash Freeway Upgrade.
Works are underway to resurface the Monash and Princes freeways with major delays expected at times during autumn 2022.
Traffic impacts
Freeway daytime lane closures – major delays
There will be lanes closed and speed reductions on sections of the Monash Freeway between Warrigal Road and EastLink during May.
Overnight freeway closures
Monash Freeway
The Monash Freeway will be closed in the outbound direction between Wellington Road and Stud Road:
- Saturday 14 May from 11pm to 7am
- Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 May from 9:30pm to 5:30am
- Thursday 19 May from 10pm to 5:30am
Detour via Wellington Road and Stud Road.
The Monash Freeway will be closed in the inbound direction between Wellington Road and Warrigal Road on Wednesday 18 May and Thursday 19 May, from 8:30pm to 5am each night.
Detour via Wellington Road, Princes Highway and Warrigal Road.
Princes Freeway
The Princes Freeway is closed overnight under the Cardinia Road Bridge on Monday 16 May in the inbound direction between 9:30pm and 4:30am and in the outbound direction from 10:30pm to 5am. Detour via the Cardinia Road entry and exit ramps.
Jacksons Road outbound entry ramp
Important changes to Jacksons Road outbound entry ramp
Jacksons Road outbound entry ramp will reopen 5am, Sunday 15 May.
When it opens it will connect only to EastLink.
To join the Monash Freeway outbound from Mulgrave, continue to detour via Wellington Road and Stud Road.
From mid-May, motorists travelling outbound on Monash Freeway will need to veer left approximately 400 metres earlier, before the Jacksons Road exit ramp in order to join Eastlink.
Daytime ramp closures
- Jacksons Road outbound entry ramp will reopen to Eastlink only at 7am Sunday 15 May. Detour via Wellington Road and Stud Road.
- Jacksons Road outbound exit ramp will be closed until 7am Sunday 15 May . Detour via Stud Road.
- Wellington Road outbound entry ramp will be closed until 5am Friday 20 May. Detour via Stud Road.
- Forster Road inbound entry ramp will be closed 24/7 from 8pm Sunday 15 May until 5am Saturday 28 May. Detour via Blackburn Road.
Overnight ramp closures
- Beaconsfield Interchange will be closed from 7am Saturday 14 May until 5am Monday 16 May. Detour via Cardinia Road.
- Wellington Road outbound exit ramp will be closed each night Sunday 15 May and Monday 16 May between 8pm and 5am. Detour via Ferntree Gully Road or Stud Road.
- Clyde Road outbound entry ramp will be closed Wednesday 18 May and Thursday 19 May from 8pm to 5am. Detour via Princes Highway.
- Springvale Road outbound entry ramp will be closed Thursday 19 May from 8pm to 5am. Detour via Ferntree Gully Road
Eastlink overnight ramp closures
- The Frankston and Ringwood entry ramps are closed Friday 13 May from 9pm to 5am.
Overnight road closure
- Warrigal Road under the Monash Freeway will be closed each night from Sunday 15 May to Wednesday 18 May between 9:30pm and 5am. Detour via Monash Freeway.
These works are heavily weather dependent and any changes to dates will be communicated via on road signage and on Victoria’s Big Build.
