The Brisbane City Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) and Homicide Investigations Unit have upgraded seven teenager’s charges to murder following investigations into the serious assault of a man in Kelvin Grove on Friday 24 July.
Shortly before 10.30pm, it is alleged a group of teens assaulted a 27-year-old man on Victoria Park Road and stole his blue 2025 BYD Shark 6.
The group fled in the alleged stolen car prior to police arrival.
Police and emergency services located the 27-year-old man with life-threatening injuries, and he was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Detectives commenced investigations under Operation Yankee Axiom following the incident.
The blue 2025 BYD Shark 6 was recovered the next morning abandoned on Barter Avenue in Holland Park.
On 25 July, investigators charged a 16-year-old Alderley boy and 17-year-old Kelvin Grove boy with one count each of grievous bodily harm and robbery in company.
The 16-year-old Alderley boy was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
The 17-year-old Kelvin Grove boy was charged with an additional one count of assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst in company. His police bail was refused, and he first appeared before Brisbane Childrens Court on 27 July.
Subsequent investigations led to the location and arrest of a further seven teens.
On 26 July, a 14-year-old Kelvin Grove girl was charged with one count of robbery in company. She was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
On 26 July, a 16-year-old Middle Park boy was charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst in company, robbery in company, and fraud – dishonest application of property of another. The boy’s police bail was refused, and he first appeared before Brisbane Childrens Court on 27 July.
On 27 July, a 15-year-old Calamvale boy and 16-year-old East Ipswich boy were charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst in company, and robbery in company.
The 16-year-old East Ipswich boy was charged with an additional one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm.
The pair’s police bail was refused, and they first appeared before Brisbane Childrens Court on 28 July.
On 28 July a 15-year-old Holland Park girl was charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, assaults occasioning bodily whilst in company, and robbery in company. Her police bail was refused, and the matter first appeared before Brisbane Childrens Court on 29 July.
On 5 August a 15-year-old Coorparoo girl and 16-year-old Greenslopes girl were charged with one count each of attempted stealing and attempted robbery in company. They were dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
On 6 August, the 27-year-old man was declared deceased.
Subsequent investigations have led to the 17-year-old Kelvin Grove boy, 16-year-old Alderley boy, 16-year-old Middle Park boy, 15-year-old Calamvale boy, 16-year-old East Ipswich boy, 15-year-old Holland Park girl, and the 14-year-old Kelvin Grove girl being charged with an additional one count each of murder this afternoon, 13 August. They are expected to appear before Brisbane Children’s Court today.
Police have previously appealed for dashcam and CCTV vision from Friday 24 July between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Victoria Park Road in Kelvin Grove and between 11.30 to 11.50pm on Barter Avenue in Holland Park West.
Investigators are now expanding their appeal to seek witnesses, CCTV vision and dashcam vision between 8.10pm and 8.40pm of Kelvin Grove Road, near the intersection of Musk Avenue, in Kelvin Grove.
Police are also specifically appealing for two potential witnesses to come forward who were seen driving in the area. Neither driver is believed to have been involved in the alleged offence.
The first potential witness was last seen driving a dark coloured SUV driving along Victoria Park Road, Blamey Street and Musk Avenue around 10.16pm.
The second potential witness was last seen driving a blue sedan at 10.16pm on Carroway Street at the intersection with Victoria Park Road.
Investigations remain ongoing.
