Update: Devils Nook reopened

Kempsey Shire Council

Devils Nook Armidale Road

Council has reopened the Devils Nook landslip site on Armidale Road to one lane of traffic after successfully clearing the site this week.

Council engaged specialist contractors to assist in clearing large fallen rocks and debris from the site using earthmoving equipment on Monday and Tuesday.

The works were undertaken after severe weather caused the slip to give way, pushing large amounts of rocks into the barriers installed to protect the road.

Due to the vulnerability of the site, Council was forced to close the road every night at 6pm for the safety of the community.

Council’s Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Dylan Reeves, said favourable weather conditions had allowed the team to quickly and successfully reinstate the site barriers for it to reopen.

“The team cleared out the fallen rocks from the site barriers – shipping containers, earthen bund and concrete barriers,” he said.

“The road will be open from midday Tuesday, 2 March under the same arrangements used prior to the event so one lane under traffic lights.

“We will continue to monitor the slip face and will notify the community if there are any changes.”

Residents are advised that the site is a changing environment and subject to weather conditions. Please drive to the conditions.
