Ahpra has recently published the results of an internal review into its notification process. The review, which focused on racism and discrimination — specifically islamophobia and antisemitism — concluded that Ahpra and the National Boards have applied appropriate and proportionate thresholds in dealing with most notifications.
The report also identified aspects that could be improved, including consistency in case management — especially for low-risk matters, speed of communication with practitioners, and management of vexatious complaints. Ahpra further outlined six actions geared towards strengthening the notification process and improving its response to issues relating to racism and discrimination.
We will continue to advocate for better proportionality and fairness in the notifications process, and clear safeguards to minimise unintended impacts on practitioner wellbeing.
