Update on Commissioner Street pedestrian bridge

Replacement of the pedestrian bridge over the causeway on Cooma’s Commissioner Street is scheduled for early 2024, with grant funding secured, design work complete, and a project manager appointed.

The bridge – which forms part of the popular Cooma Creek Walk – was damaged beyond repair during floods in January 2023.

Pedestrians and cyclists are reminded that using the Commissioner Street road causeway is extremely dangerous. Those on bike and on foot are urged to take an alternate route.

Sharp Street runs parallel to Commissioner Street, and is recommended for both pedestrians and cyclists.

To detour around the Commissioner Street crossing and re-join the Cooma Creek Walk, use Bombala Street and Massie Street.

Saving a few minutes is not worth risking your life.

Nationwide demand for supplies and skilled workers means this project won’t be completed until early 2024, despite all preparatory work being complete.

We appreciate the community’s continuing patience and cooperation during this period of inconvenience.
