UPDATE – Second teen charged following stabbing – Merrylands

A second teenager has been charged following an alleged stabbing in Sydney’s west earlier this week.

About 5.15pm on Monday 1 September 2025, emergency services were called to Merrylands Railway Station following reports of a stabbing.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 16-year-old boy before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Police will allege in court the 16-year-old had interacted with two males – who were not known to him – before they assaulted the boy and left the scene.

The 16-year-old continues to recover in hospital.

Following investigations, police arrested a 17-year-old boy yesterday (Tuesday 3 September 2025). He remains before the courts.

About 2pm today (Wednesday 3 September 2025), a 17-year-old boy attended Sutherland Police Station, where he was arrested and charged with:

– Cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder

– Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm

– Armed with intent to commit serious indictable offence

– Use knife in public place – cause person to fear for safety

– Custody of knife in a public place

– Travel on concession ticket when not entitled

– Affray

He was refused bail to appear before a Children’s Court today (Wednesday 3 September 2025).
