Updated guide for new small businesses

Nick Duigan, Minister for Small Business

Aspiring Tasmanian entrepreneurs and start-ups now have an additional resource to help them on their journey, with the Rockliff Liberal Government releasing a renewed guide for starting a small business.

Minister for Small Business, Nick Duigan said the guide would support those looking to take the first step in their business journey while also helping them to understand key considerations in the Tasmanian context.

“We know that starting a business can be both exciting and stressful and this updated guide is a tool that can help people through this process,” Minister Duigan said.

“It includes a list of useful contacts; guidance on how to assess a business idea and information that can help you to prepare a business plan. It also contains information that may help you consider your legal requirements, managing your finances and dealing with your staff, customers and suppliers.”

Minister Duigan said Tasmania has 43,000 businesses, and more than 41,000 of those are small businesses.

“Small businesses are an integral part of our state’s economy, contributing to our economic growth by providing products and services, employment opportunities and support for local communities,” he said.

“The launch of this guide provides another element to the broad range of support the Rockliff Liberal Government provides to help small businesses flourish throughout their lifecycles.

“It also aligns with the services provided through the Tasmania Business Advice Service and the New Business Support Pilot Program, both of which launched in October last year.”

The Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering on its long-term plan to create jobs and grow Tasmania’s economy.

There are now 53,000 more Tasmanians in jobs than when the Liberal’s came to Government in 2014, with a record high of 288,000 Tasmanians now in work.
