Remote area policing is a critical role for Tasmania Police and housing that is modern, functional and fit-for-purpose encourages police officers and their families, to live and stay in our country areas.
Today I had the chance to view the newly renovated Bridport Police House, which is being completed by local Launceston based firm Anstie Constructions this month.
The upgrade included security improvements, a complete replacement of the kitchen and bathroom, insulation and a new open living space as part of the Tasmanian Government’s police housing program.
Last week we announced a further injection of $8.7 million into the program to finish the upgrades of the remaining 29 police houses across Tasmania by June 2022.
This latest funding brings the total investment in the program to $21.7 million and will provide a significant economic stimulus to a number of regional Tasmanian communities and businesses affected by COVID-19.
Importantly, it will provide better facilities for our police officer who I know are looking forward to the completion of the upgrades, which will allow them to continue the tremendous job they do protecting our communities and keeping us safe.
The location and number of residences that will be upgraded include:
- 2 houses in Alonnah;
- 2 in Nubeena;
- 2 in Scottsdale;
- 5 in Smithton;
- 1 in Dover;
- 1 in Geeveston;
- 1 in Currie;
- 1 in St Marys;
- 2 in Campbell Town;
- 3 in Oatlands;
- 1 in Kempton;
- 1 in Rosebery;
- 2 in Queenstown;
- 1 in Richmond;
- 1 in Ringarooma;
- 1 in Fingal;
- 1 in Maydena; and
- 1 in Woodbridge.
